2nd grade / Fractions / Compare fractions / Which fractions are equivalent
A fraction is a number that compares one value (the top number or numerator) with another number (the bottom number or denominator). The fraction Β½ compares the size of 1 to the size of 2 and says that 1 is half the size of 2. Other fractions can also find that the numerator is half the size of the denominator like 2/4 and 3/6. So these fractions are all equivalent because they all say that the numerator is half the size of the denominator.
If we compared the fraction Β½ to the fraction ΒΌ we can see that they are not equivalent because the fraction ΒΌ says that the denominator is 4 times as big as the numerator whereas the fraction Β½ says that the denominator is two times as big as the numerator.
So we can compare fractions and decide that some fractions are equivalent and some fractions are not equivalent and we do that by comparing their numerators and denominators.
With our The frog flies math game you will be practicing the topic "Which fractions are equivalent" from 2nd grade / Fractions / Compare fractions. The math in this game consists of 16 questions that ask you to decide if the pairs of fractions are equivalent / the same size.
Learn or revise math with our fun interactive game THE FROG FLIES! You are a happy hungry frog in the middle of the jungle in the middle of the night. Catch the flies for your supper (and practice math just for fun).
You can play the game on tablet/mobile or desktop computer. On handheld devices you move the frog by tapping where you want it to move to. On a computer, use the arrow keys on your keyboard to move.
Sometimes a big bird swoops through the forest catching unwary amphibians so stay alert and get out of the way of its beak!
Scoring is based on flies caught, questions answered and number of deaths by bird. Your final score is your total points minus your time in seconds.
The highest scores for each topic can be saved and seen by clicking on the star button, so get learning and get your frog's name up in lights!
