2nd grade / Fractions / Compare fractions / Which fractions are equivalent
A fraction is a number that compares one value (the top number or numerator) with another number (the bottom number or denominator). The fraction ½ compares the size of 1 to the size of 2 and says that 1 is half the size of 2. Other fractions can also find that the numerator is half the size of the denominator like 2/4 and 3/6. So these fractions are all equivalent because they all say that the numerator is half the size of the denominator.
If we compared the fraction ½ to the fraction ¼ we can see that they are not equivalent because the fraction ¼ says that the denominator is 4 times as big as the numerator whereas the fraction ½ says that the denominator is two times as big as the numerator.
So we can compare fractions and decide that some fractions are equivalent and some fractions are not equivalent and we do that by comparing their numerators and denominators.
With our Four in a row math game you will be practicing the topic "Which fractions are equivalent" from 2nd grade / Fractions / Compare fractions. The math in this game consists of 16 questions that ask you to decide if the pairs of fractions are equivalent / the same size.
The game will reinforce the math you have chosen to learn by getting you to match the question to the correct answer.
