Is it a factor
for 4th grade

Choose the number that is a factor of the larger number

Identify factors

Factors are numbers that can be multiplied together to get another number. For example, 2 and 3 are factors of 6 because 2 x 3 = 6.

To find the factors of a number, think about all the different pairs of numbers that can be multiplied together to get that number. For example, let's find the factors of 12. What pairs of numbers can be multiplied together to make 12?

  • 1 x 12 = 12
  • 2 x 6 = 12
  • 3 x 4 = 12

So, the factors of 12 are 1, 2, 3, 4, 6, and 12. These are all the numbers that can be multiplied together in pairs to get 12.

Let us work out the factors of 8, of 10 and of 16.

  • The factors of 8: 1 x 8 = 8, 2 x 4 = 8 (factors: 1, 2, 4, 8)
  • The factors of 10: 1 x 10 = 10, 2 x 5 = 10 (factors: 1, 2, 5, 10)
  • The factors of 16: 1 x 16 = 16, 2 x 8 = 16, 4 x 4 = 16 (factors: 1, 2, 4, 8, 16)

This topic asks you to find one factor of each given number. The numbers range from 9 up to 99.
