4th grade : Fractions of amounts - ⅔ of an amount
Calculating fractions of amounts means doing a bit of multiplication and a bit of division. The sum :
⅔ of 66
can be thought of as
2 x 66 ÷ 3
and because we know that order of operations for multiplication and division are equal, we could also think of it as
66 ÷ 3 x 2
Now all we have to do is compute :
2 x 66 = 132
132 ÷ 3 = 44
⅔ of 120 is equivalent to 120 ÷ 3 x 2
120 ÷ 3 = 40
40 x 2 = 80
Below is a table showing the first 6 question answer pairs for the topic "Two thirds of an amount" as used in the lessons for this topic. Our games and tests for the topic use these 6 items plus 11 additional question answer pairs.
