4th grade / Fractions / Fractions of amounts / Two thirds of an amount
Calculating fractions of amounts means doing a bit of multiplication and a bit of division. The sum :
โ of 66
can be thought of as
2 x 66 รท 3
and because we know that order of operations for multiplication and division are equal, we could also think of it as
66 รท 3 x 2
Now all we have to do is compute :
2 x 66 = 132
132 รท 3 = 44
โ of 120 is equivalent to 120 รท 3 x 2
120 รท 3 = 40
40 x 2 = 80
