Multiply then divide: missing answer
for 3rd grade

Do a multiplication and a division to find the answer

3rd grade : Number machine : multiply then divide

A number machine is a way of doing 2 or more sums on an input number. In this topic you will be multiplying the input number by another number, then taking the answer and dividing it by a third number. This is called a 2 step calculation. Kind of like a machine that takes some raw input, does a few operations and spits out an output.

In the first question you are asked to take 3, multiply it by 6, then divide the answer by 2. In the second question you are asked to take 5, multiply it by 6, then divide the answer by 10.

  1. Start with a number
  2. Multiply it by a number in the machine
  3. Take that answer and divide it by another number

Start with 3, multiply by 6 then divide by 2

3 x 6 = 18

18 ÷ 2 = 9

So 3 x 6 ÷ 2 = 9

Start with 5, multiply by 6 then divide by 10

5 x 6 = 30

30 ÷ 10 = 3

So 5 x 6 ÷ 10 = 3
