Count in steps of 100
for 2nd grade

Count up in steps of 100 from 0 to 1000 using whole numbers

Count up in steps of 100 to 1000

Counting in steps of 100 means adding 100 to a number each time. This is a great way to practice your addition skills and learn about number patterns. When you count in steps of 100, you are also finding the numbers in the 100 times table. Look at the list below.

  • 0 (this is our starting point)
  • 0 + 100 = 100 (we've added 100 to 0)
  • 100 + 100 = 200 (another 100 added to make 200)
  • 200 + 100 = 300 (another 100 added to make 300)
  • 300 + 100 = 400 (another 100 added to make 400)

You can see that a pattern emerges when you add 100 each time. The first number of the answer goes up 1 and the two zeros stay the same. Do you see how you can easily know what adding 100 will do because only the first number changes? It is a bit like adding 1 each time but with two zeros at the end of each number.

You can continue adding 100 to the last number to build up what you could call the 100 times table. What would the 100 times table look like? It would look like this:

  • 1 x 100 = 100
  • 2 x 100 = 200
  • 3 x 100 = 300
  • 4 x 100 = 400
  • 5 x 100 = 500
  • 6 x 100 = 600
  • 7 x 100 = 700
  • 8 x 100 = 800
  • 9 x 100 = 900
  • 10 x 100 = 1000

This topic requires you to supply the missing number or the next number in lists that count up in steps of 100. There is one missing number in the missing number lists. The lists count up as far as 1000. An example missing number question is:

Question : 100, 200, ▢, 400 Answer : 300

The answer is 300 because 200 + 100 = 300 (and 3 x 100 = 300).

An example next number question is:

Question : 700, 800, .. Answer : 900

The answer is 900 because 800 + 100 = 900.
