5th grade / Multiply + Divide / Order of operations / Order of operations: missing multiple
This topic is intended to reinforce the mutual relationship between multiplication and division. Each question starts with a number. That number is multiplied by a second number then divided by a third number. The answer is given, but the second number (the multiple) is missing and needs to be calculated. You do this by multiplying the divisor (the third number) by the answer, then dividing that by the first number.
So, in the first question from the lesson we have an equation of the form:
4 x ▢ ÷ 3 = 12
We can calculate the missing value ▢ by moving the ÷ 3 to the other side of the equation which converts it to x 3. So now we know that:
4 x ▢ = 12 x 3 = 36
We can now move the x 4 across to the other side where it becomes ÷ 4. No we have:▢ = 36 ÷ 4 = 9
So the solution is that the value of the missing multiple is 9.
With our Cat and mouse math game you will be practicing the topic "Order of operations: missing multiple" from 5th grade / Multiply + Divide / Order of operations. The math in this game consists of 16 questions that ask you to work back from the answer to find the missing multiple in these multiply then divide 2 step operations.
Cat versus mouse game with added balloons for math and fun. You are the ginger cat, and your life is being made a misery by some white mice which have come into the house and are proving hard to catch. Not to mention there is a mouse house party going on and lots of balloons getting in the way of your hunting.
So you have to catch the white mice, forget about the gray mice, hit the blue balloons but avoid the red balloons, and answer math questions (you are a CLEVER cat...). If it sounds complicated and a bit frantic, that's because it is. Do your best but don't worry if you can't catch all the mice - neither can we. It's a cat's life...
