Subtract 101
for 5th grade

Subtract 101 from a number by subtracting 100 and then subtracting 1 more

Subtract 101

When you subtract a number ending in 1, you can use this simple tricks to help you.

First subtract 100, and then subtract 1 more.

233 - 101 = (233 - 100) - 1 = 133 - 1

Another example with a bigger initial number:

1356 - 101 = (1356 - 100) - 1 = 1256 - 1

You can use a similar technique whenever the number to be subtracted has a unit value of 1. Try some of our games and you will soon be subracting 101 quicker than you can say "subtract 101".
