Describe the translation of the pink square to the green square using left and up or down
Home / 4th grade / Position + Direction / Describe the translation / Left and up or down
In this topic you are asked to describe the number of grid squares that the pink square must move to be in the same location as the green square. In each instance the green square is to the left of the pink square, but it may be higher or lower than the pink square. Translations of this type are described using phrases of the form "x left, y down" or "x left, y up".
For instance, one of the translation might be described as:
2 left, 3 up
or, if the green square is lower than the pink square:
4 left, 4 down
Remember, the translation is always from the pink square to the green square - it is easy to get confused and try to read the translation from left to right like with writing...
