Count up in steps of 4

Counting in steps of 4 means adding 4 to a number each time you count. This is a great way to practice your addition skills and learn about patterns. When you count in steps of 4 from 4, you are also finding the numbers in the 4 times table. Look at the list below.

• 4 (this is our starting point)
• 4 + 4 = 8 (we've added 4 to make 8)
• 8 + 4 = 12 (another 4 added to make 12)
• 12 + 4 = 16 (another 4 added to make 16)

You can continue adding 4 to the last number to build up the 4 times table.

The 4 times table up to 12 is:
1 x 4 = 4, 2 x 4 = 8, 3 x 4 = 12, 4 x 4 = 16, 5 x 4 = 20,
6 x 4 = 24, 7 x 4 = 28, 8 x 4 = 32, 9 x 4 = 36, 10 x 4 = 40, 11 x 4 = 44, 12 x 4 = 48

A number line is a simple yet effective tool to help you learn counting and develop a better understanding of numbers and their relationships. In this topic you will see the number line created by adding 4 each time from zero to 48 (which is 12 multiplied by 4 or 4 added to itself 12 times).

This topic asks you to supply the missing number in number lines of 4. There is one missing number in each question. In the first question you see the 4 step number line with some of the positions filled in but with a missing number box between 4 and 12. So the answer to this question is 8 as 8 comes between 4 and 12 when adding 4 each time.
