5th grade / Multiply + Divide / Factors / Find the factors of numbers to 99
The factors of a number are the numbers that can be multiplied together to get that number. For example, the factors of 12 are 1, 2, 3, 4, 6, and 12 because these numbers can be multiplied together to equal 12.
The factors of 6 are 1, 2, 3 and 6
The factors of 16 are 1, 2, 4, 8 and 16
The factors of 66 are 1, 2, 3, 6, 11, 22, 33 and 66
There is no single procedure for finding factors. All numbers have themselves and 1 as factors, but other factors you will need to work out for each number individually.
Knowing multiplication tables up to 10 can help in finding factors of larger numbers. For example, if you knows that 6 x 6 = 36, you can easily find that 1, 2, 3, 4, 6, 9, 12, 18, and 36 are factors of 36.
Some other numbers and their factors are:
The factors of 9 are 1, 3 and 9
The factors of 20 are 1, 2, 5, 10 and 20
The factors of 48 are 1, 2, 3, 4, 6, 8, 12, 16, 24 and 48
The factors of 21 are 1, 3, 7 and 21
