3rd grade / Fractions / Compare fractions / Identify equivalent fractions
Equivalent fractions are different fractions that represent the same part of a whole or the same value. Although their numerators and denominators may be different, they have an equal value when simplified. That is, their ratio remains the same.
For example, let's consider the fraction 1/2. To find an equivalent fraction, you can multiply both the numerator and the denominator by the same number, such as 2. This gives us (1 × 2) / (2 × 2) = 2/4. The fractions 1/2 and 2/4 are equivalent because they represent the same portion of a whole, which is half.
Here are a few more examples of equivalent fractions:
In this topic you are asked to identify the equivalent fractions in a list of 4 fractions. You will need to see which of the fractions can be simplified, and when simplified, which of the fractions are the same.
With our Four in a row math game you will be practicing the topic "Identify equivalent fractions" from 3rd grade / Fractions / Compare fractions. The math in this game consists of 12 questions that ask you to choose which two fractions are equivalent.
The game will reinforce the math you have chosen to learn by getting you to match the question to the correct answer.
