3rd grade / Counting / In steps of 7 / Count down in steps of 7
Counting down in steps of 7 means taking away 7 from a number each time. This is a great way to practice your subtraction skills and learn about patterns. When you count down in steps of 7 from 70, you are also finding the numbers in the 7 times table. Look at the boxes below.
70 (this is our starting point)
70 - 7 = 63 (we've taken 7 away from 70)
63 - 7 = 56 (another 7 taken away to make 56)
56 - 7 = 49 (another 7 taken away to make 49)
You can continue taking away 7 until you reach 0, and you will get all the numbers in the 7 times table.
This topic requires you to supply the missing number in lists that count down in steps of 7. There is one missing number in each list. Some of the missing numbers are in the middle of the lists, some are at the end. The lists count down from 70 to 0. An example question is:
28, ▢, 14, 7 : answer = 21
The answer is 21 because 28 - 7 = 21 (and 14 + 7 = 21).
