Types of numbers
In this topic you will learn to name and distinguish between different types of numbers. Understanding these number types will help you in your mathematical journey. The numbers you will be asked to name and distinguish are:
Positive Numbers
Positive numbers are numbers greater than zero. They can be whole numbers or decimals. For example, 2, 5, and 12 are positive whole numbers, while 1.5 and 3.25 are positive decimals.
Negative Numbers
Negative numbers are numbers smaller than zero. They are written with a minus sign (-) in front of them. For example, -3, -6, and -15 are negative numbers. We can also have negative decimals, like -2.7 or -0.25.
Even Numbers
Even numbers are numbers that can be divided by 2 without leaving any remainder. In other words, they are numbers that can be split into two equal parts with nothing left over. Examples of even numbers are 2, 14, 52, 86 and 934. Notice that it is the units digit which is important in deciding if a number is even.
Odd Numbers
Odd numbers are numbers that cannot be divided by 2 without leaving a remainder. In other words, if you try to split an odd number into two equal parts, you will always have one part that is bigger than the other. Examples of odd numbers are 1, 23, 35, and 77. Again, it is the units digit that will allow you to tell if a number is odd or even.
Decimals
Decimal numbers are numbers that have a whole part and a fractional part separated by a decimal point. The fractional part represents a part of a whole. For example, 0.5 represents half, and 0.25 represents one-quarter. Decimals can be positive or negative, like 2.75 or -1.3.
Fractions
Fractions are numbers that represent a part of a whole. They are written as one number above another, separated by a horizontal or diagonal line. The number above the line is called the numerator, and the number below the line is called the denominator. For example, ½, ¾, and ⅘ are fractions.
Prime Numbers
Prime numbers are whole numbers greater than 1 that have only two factors: 1 and the number itself. In other words, prime numbers cannot be divided evenly by any other numbers except 1 and themselves. Examples of prime numbers are 2, 3, 5, 7, and 11.
This topic asks you to look at groups of numbers and to decide what type of numbers they are.
With our Duck shoot math game you will be practicing the topic "Name types of number" from 4th grade / Comparing numbers / Naming numbers. The math in this game consists of 16 questions that ask you to choose the correct name for the numbers in each list e.g. even, odd, decimals, fractions, etc..
DUCK SHOOT is a fun game to learn math where you attempt to knock over all the fairground ducks in each level. In the first level there are only 6 ducks but by level 10 there are 24 fast moving "quackers quacking"...
After each level, win an additional 20 points by correctly answering a math question from your selected topic. There is no timer in this game: take as long as you like to answer the math questions correctly for a best score to get you on the DUCK SHOOT leaderboard.

How to play DUCK SHOOT to practice
'Name types of number' for 4th grade
DUCK SHOOT is a fairground themed game of knocking ducks off the rails to win points.
- In each level of DUCK SHOOT, knock over as many ducks as you can.
- Drag the orange ball back and away from the ducks then let go.
- This will release a flying ball that will shoot towards the ducks (hopefully).
- Any duck the flying ball hits will fall off the rail.
- You get 5 points for each duck you hit.
- You lose 5 points for each duck that escapes.
- When all the ducks have been knocked off or have exited the screen, you get a math question from your selected topic.
- Answering the question correctly adds 20 points to your score.
- A wrong answer takes 10 points away from your score.
- In each level there are more ducks.
- Your final score is a combination of the number of ducks you hit minus the number that escaped, plus the points you get from the math questions.
- There is a high score leaderboard for each topic.
