Calculating square roots
To calculate the square root of a number, we need to find a number which when multiplied by itself gives the original number. The square root of a number is denoted by the symbol √.
For example: √9 = 3 because 3 x 3 = 9
To calculate the square root of a number using a calculator, we can simply enter the number and press the square root button (√). For example, to calculate the square root of 16, we can enter 16 and press the square root button to get the answer 4.
Sometimes we need to find the nearest integer to the square root of a number because the answer is not an integer. For example, the square root of 17 is approximately 4.12, so the nearest integer to the square root of 17 is 4. Here are some more examples:
Square root of 25 is √25 = 5
Square root of 121 is √121 = 11
√50 = ~7.07 which is 7 to the nearest integer
√150 = ~12.25 which is 12 to the nearest integer
√120 = ~10.95 which is 11 to the nearest integer
