C = πr + 2r

Circumference of semicircles
for 8th grade

Use C = πr + 2r to calculate the circumference of the given semicircles to 2 d.p.

Calculating the circumference of semicircles

A semicircle is defined as exactly half a circle. Given the radius or diameter of a semicircle, we can calculate the circumference. The circumference length will include both the arc of the semicircle and the diameter (or 2 times the radius).

Given a radius r, the circumference of a semicircle is calculated as:

Circumference = (π x Radius) + (2 x Radius)

Given a diameter d, the circumference of a semicircle is calculated as:

Circumference = (π x Diameter/2) + Diameter

Below is a table showing the first 6 question answer pairs for the topic "Circumference of semicircles" as used in the lessons for this topic. Our games and tests for the topic use these 6 items plus 10 additional question answer pairs.

The topic "Circumference of semicircles" is in the category Geometry & measures for 8th grade (ages 13 to 14).

1 / 6
Using the formula circumference = π r + 2 r, the circumference of this semicircle is 5.14 cm
r = 1 cm
5.14 cm
2 / 6
Using the formula circumference = π r + 2 r, the circumference of this semicircle is 23.65 cm
r = 4.6 cm
23.65 cm
3 / 6
Using the formula circumference = π r + 2 r, the circumference of this semicircle is 31.88 cm
r = 6.2 cm
31.88 cm
4 / 6
Given that the radius is half the diameter, the circumference of this semicircle is 5.14 m
d = 2 m
5.14 m
5 / 6
Given that the radius is half the diameter, the circumference of this semicircle is 25.19 cm
d = 9.8 cm
25.19 cm
6 / 6
Given that the radius is half the diameter, the circumference of this semicircle is 56.56 m
d = 22 m
56.56 m
